Connect a creator: bot token or Telegram Business
The two connection methods, what the fan sees in each, and how to move between them without losing history.
An agency connects a creator to OFM Chatbot in one of two ways, and the choice decides what the fan sees. The first is a bot: create it with BotFather, paste the token into the creator record, and OFM Chatbot registers the Telegram Bot API webhook that routes incoming messages to the conversation engine. Fans message a bot account, and paid media is delivered through the bot’s own paywall. The second is Telegram Business: the creator connects their personal Telegram account under Settings → Business → Chatbots and authorises OFM Chatbot to read and reply to direct messages on their behalf. Fans see the creator’s name and photo, not a bot. Both connection types live on the same creator record with the same persona, scripts, media library and analytics, so an agency can start with a bot and migrate later. Rotating a token or revoking the business connection does not delete fan history or attribution.
Method 1 — a bot from BotFather
- Open @BotFather in Telegram and send
/newbot. Choose a display name and a username ending inbot. - BotFather returns an API token that looks like
123456789:AAH.... Treat it as a credential — anyone holding it controls the bot. - In OFM Chatbot, open the creator and paste the token. The webhook registers automatically and the connection goes live.
- Optional but recommended: set the bot’s profile photo, description and bio in BotFather. If your AI-disclosure placement is the bio, that is where the notice lives.
Rotating a token. If a token leaks, revoke it in BotFather and paste the new one into the same creator record. Fans, transcripts, transactions and script attribution are keyed to the creator, not to the token, so nothing is lost.
Method 2 — Telegram Business
Telegram Business lets a bot read and reply to the direct messages of a personal account. Fans see the creator’s own name and photo, and the conversation lives in the creator’s normal chat list.
- The creator’s account needs Telegram Premium, which is what unlocks the Business settings.
- On the creator’s account: Settings → Business → Chatbots, then enter the bot’s username.
- Grant the permissions the bot needs to reply. These are per-chat and the account owner can revoke them at any time.
- In OFM Chatbot, the creator record shows the business connection as active. The persona, scripts and media it already had continue to apply.
Which to choose
- Start with a bot when you are proving a script, when the creator does not want the platform touching their personal account, or when the creator does not have Premium.
- Use Telegram Business when the fan relationship is already with the creator’s personal handle and moving it to a bot account would break continuity.
Both are first-party Telegram mechanisms. The real operational risks are unsolicited mass sends, which draw spam flags, and exceeding send-rate limits — which is what the pacing and cooldown controls exist to respect.
Payments
Paid media is delivered behind a Telegram Stars paywall in both connection modes. Fans buy Stars inside Telegram, through Apple or Google in-app purchase or by card, and the balance accumulates against the bot. Withdrawals run through Fragment to a TON wallet. Telegram sets the rate, the minimum and the holding period, and changes them — check Telegram and Fragment for current figures rather than any vendor’s documentation, including ours.
